MY START IN THE WORLD OF SUGAR
Hello World (you’ll understand this computer science reference in a little bit)! I’m Aisha, the proud owner and founder of A. Wilson Cakes! To put it plainly, I’m just a simple (and occasionally fancy) Texas girl born and raised in Houston that has transformed my passion and enjoyment of all things cake and other top-notch worthy calories into a thriving business, that focuses on flavor and providing a sweet client experience.
Though I am now mostly associated with butter, flour, sugar, faith, and family, this journey started back in 2001 as a full-time professional in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math) field.
HERE’S MORE OF THE STORY
I graduated in 2001 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Computer Science from the one an only Prairie View A&M University. This fine institution has a very special place in my heart because this is where I met my future husband, Sean J. Wilson, although I like to call him Lucio (inside joke).
During those years at Prairie View, I excelled and really enjoyed computer programming. With this desire for tech literally at my fingertips, I was excited and had high hopes of seeing where this technology path would lead me. Right out of college I was hired as an Engineer at IBM. While at IBM, I never really got into coding but, I was able to forge a great career as a Server Test Engineer for nearly 8 years.
Despite the rewards of a career in tech, I gracefully bowed out of the engineering field in 2009 when my husband and I began our family and I elected to begin a new phase of life engineering. From that day until now, I have proudly occupied the role of life designer for our two wonderful sons, Noah and Caden.

THE STORY CONTINUES
When I first got married, I was not really known for my ability to cook or even having some great burning desire to do so. God bless her heart, but my Mom to this very day does not really venture into the kitchen, so I definitely did not inherent a baking gene if one were to exist. Plus, my husband loved cooking so I was set! Looking back now, it was during the early part of our marriage and shortly after the birth of our first son that I really began enjoying cookbooks for some unknown reason.
When I say enjoying cookbooks, I really mean I may have had a slight obsession with reading every single one I could get my hands on. I guess exploring all those cookbooks and recipes provided a sense of freedom, creativity, and peace that I now believe planted the early seeds to my journey into cakes. My husband, being the budding home cook that he is, naturally gravitated to cooking savory dishes, but my passion was always cake (I mean what true red-blooded Texan girl does not love a good slice of cake)!
So, relying on my technical background, I methodically and meticulously tried recipe after recipe over and over again. The more I baked, the more I enjoyed it and the more I enjoyed it, the more I loved it. Ever since then I have applied the technical mindset I developed as an engineer to develop rich flavors and complimentary texture combinations that have become the undeniable hallmark of A. Wilson Cakes. I invite you to join me and enjoy this journey where technology, passion, flavor and service, intersect to produce a shared cake experience that will last a lifetime.
